'The Valley of the Creuse at Fresselines' is an 1889 Impressionism oil painting by Claude Monet that captures the tranquil beauty of the Creuse river at sunset. Created during Monet’s stay near Fresselines, where poet Maurice Rollinat's house was located, the work illustrates a serene Landscape of the Petite Creuse flowing into the Grande Creuse. Monet painted fourteen views of this site, collectively exhibited in Paris in 1889. Today, the painting resides in the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar, acquired in 1975 by the Société Schongauer. The piece exemplifies Monet’s mastery in capturing fleeting light and atmosphere characteristic of Impressionist style.
