The "Annunciation" by Hans Memling is a masterful example of a religious painting from the Northern renaissance. This panel painting, created in the 1480s, vividly depicts the archangel Gabriel announcing to the Virgin Mary that she will conceive Jesus, as described in the Gospel of Luke. Known for its exquisite detail and luminous oil techniques, the artwork was transferred to canvas after 1928 and is now part of the Robert Lehman collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
