The Madonna of the Goldfinch is a renowned religious painting by Raphael, created around 1505–1506 during the High renaissance. Executed on a panel using oil techniques, it depicts the Madonna with the Christ Child and the playful goldfinch. After a decade-long restoration completed in 2008, the original was returned to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, where an antique copy now hangs in its place. This masterpiece exemplifies Raphael’s masterful use of light, composition, and emotional depth characteristic of the High renaissance.
