By evening

"By Evening" is an evocative oil painting created in 1892 by Russian artist Isaac Levitan. The landscape beautifully captures a monastic site nestled by a river bend during the soft glow of evening light. Reflecting the principles of Realism, the work emphasizes authentic portrayal of nature and tranquil surroundings. The painting, considered a variation of his earlier piece "Quiet Abode," showcases Levitan's mastery of canvas and atmosphere, emphasizing mood and serenity. Since 1918, it has been part of the collection at Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery.
