Still life
Still life with Checked Tablecloth is an early 20th-century Cubism painting by Spanish artist Juan Gris. Executed in oil and graphite on canvas, it portrays a table set with grapes, a red wine bottle, beer, a newspaper, and a guitar. Gris's unique approach involves assembling these objects into a composite image that can be read as a bull's head, showcasing his skill in geometrically fragmenting forms. This work exemplifies the analytical depth of Cubist techniques and elevates the tradition of Still life painting. The piece is part of the collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
