Vincent van Gogh’s Reaper, part of his series including Wheat Field with Reaper and Wheat Field with Reaper and Sun, depicts a solitary figure harvesting wheat beneath a radiant, golden sun. Van Gogh regarded the Realism subject of the reaper as symbolic of humanity being gently reaped, representing death. Unlike somber interpretations, Van Gogh described the scene as "almost smiling," with an atmosphere bathed in daylight’s shimmering paper-like glow. The work evolved from studies in sketch and study using chalk, capturing the vitality and simplicity of the moment."
