The Virgin of Chancellor Rolin (detail) is a masterful religious painting by the Northern renaissance painter Jan van Eyck, created around 1435. This exquisite Oil painting depicts the Madonna with the Christ child, set against a detailed landscape, exemplifying van Eyck’s meticulous attention to detail and realism. The composition also includes a portrait of Nicolas Rolin, the chancellor who commissioned the work, shown on the left. The piece was originally painted on wood and intended for Rolin’s church in Autun. Now housed in the Louvre, it remains a prime example of early Northern renaissance artistry.
