The Rest on the Flight into Egypt

"The Rest on the Flight into Egypt" by Giambattista Pittoni exemplifies his mastery of Rococo style within a religious painting. The artwork depicts the Holy Family resting during their journey into Egypt, highlighting Pittoni's delicate use of color and elegant composition characteristic of the Venetian school's grace. With 247 extant works listed in the catalogue raisonné by Franca Zava Boccazzi, Pittoni's serene portrayal balances spiritual themes with refined artistry. His drawings, totaling 304 items according to Alice Binion, reveal an artist deeply engaged with religious narratives conveyed through soft, harmonious tones and intricate detail.
