Filippino Lippi's Tobias and the Archangel Raphael (c. 1475–1480) is a masterful example of religious painting from the Early renaissance period. Painted in oil and tempera on poplar panel, it depicts the biblical scene of Tobias guided by the healing Archangel Raphael. Lippi’s delicate attention to detail and use of vibrant colors exemplify the emerging naturalism characteristic of the period. The composition emphasizes divine intervention and human faith, typical themes in Renaissance religious painting. The artwork is currently housed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
