"Woman at a Window" is an 1822 oil painting by the German Romanticism artist Caspar David Friedrich, currently housed in the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin. The work depicts an intimate interior scene where a woman, thought to be Friedrich's wife Caroline, is seen from behind, gazing out of an open window. Through the window, masts of ships and the distant Elbe river in Dresden are visible, emphasizing themes of longing and contemplation. Friedrich originally intended this as a genre painting, capturing a moment of quiet reflection, though he did not complete it in time for the Dresden Academy exhibition.
