"Reclining nude", or "La Femme au perroquet", is a pioneering nude painting (nu) by French artist Gustave Courbet, renowned for his contributions to Realism in art. This oil on canvas work, done in 1866, became Courbet's first accepted nude by the esteemed Paris Salon, after a former work was rejected for being risqué in 1864. The painting elegantly depicts a woman in repose, epitomizing Courbet's unprecedented naturalistic portrayal of the nude female form. It is proudly held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
