'The Women Friends' is a now lost masterpiece by Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt, created between 1916 and 1917. Art historians suggest that Klimt employed the Art nouveau (modern) style, crafting a complex portrait of an intimate, feminine bond. This piece, like many of Klimt’s works, was destroyed in the fire at Schloss Immendorf in 1945. It’s thought that Klimt rendered 'The Women Friends' using oil paints on a canvas, as was the technique of his time. Even in its absence, the memory of this powerful painting endures.
