Bus by the Tiber

'Bus by the Tiber' (1978) by Jeffrey Smart exemplifies his mastery of Contemporary realism, capturing precise, sharply defined urban scenes with meticulous technique. Smart’s work often features structured compositions and a controlled palette, highlighting architectural elements within a cityscape. The title references a bus positioned near the Tiber River, grounding the piece in a specific urban environment. Through his detailed approach, Smart transforms everyday moments into striking visual narratives, emphasizing geometry and light while evoking a mood of stillness and contemplation typical of his late 20th-century oeuvre.
