The Disrobing of Christ
'The Disrobing of Christ', or 'El Expolio', is an iconic religious painting by El Greco, created with oil on canvas in the late 16th century. Known for its aesthetic of Mannerism (late renaissance), this painting depicts the biblical event of Christ being stripped of his garments before crucifixion and is much admired for its spiritual intensity and dramatic use of colour. Created specifically for the Cathedral of Toledo, the painting had a brief stay at the Prado Museum in 2013 for conservation works. This masterpiece stands as a testament to El Greco's artistic genius and dedication to his craft.
