Coronation of the Virgin
"Coronation of the Virgin" is a significant religious painting created by the renowned artist, El Greco, between 1603 and 1605. This work, rendered in oil on canvas, exemplifies the characteristics of Mannerism (late renaissance) era art, featuring an exaggerated elegance and complex compositional design. It was one among a group of five paintings commissioned for the high altarpiece of the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad in Illescas, Toledo. Currently, four of these works, including the "Coronation of the Virgin," continue to adorn the church, while the fifth resides in the National Museum of Art of Romania.
