'Christ on the Cross with Two Maries and St. John' is one of El Greco's most renowned religious paintings. Completed between 1577 and 1579, this masterpiece, which is a prime example of late Renaissance Mannerism, remains in the Cathedral of Toledo, following a cleaning and conservation period in Madrid's Prado Museum in 2013. The painting was crafted on canvas using oil paint, bringing to life the poignant biblical scene. It was through connections with the Cathedral's dean, Diego de Castilla, that El Greco secured the commission for this monumental piece, marking his established presence in Spain.
