Il Sodoma, the Italian Renaissance painter Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, created the Deposition from the Cross, a compelling example of religious painting. His style superimposes the grandeur of the High renaissance with the traditional techniques of the Siena school. Exhibiting dynamic figures and emotional depth, the composition captures the poignant moment of Christ’s body being lowered from the cross. Although rooted in the provincial Sienese tradition, Il Sodoma’s work reflects the influence of Rome’s artistic developments, blending regional warmth with the sophistication characteristic of the High renaissance period.
