'The White Horse' is a striking example of French artist Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin's experimentations with Post-impressionism and symbolism in his paintings. Being primarily an animal painting, it features a majestic white horse against an exotic, lush natural backdrop. Gauguin employed the use of oil on a canvas to exhilarate the sensory indulgence of his viewers with arresting colors and textures. Not quite successful during his lifetime, the artist's intricate works such as this one have since then been acknowledged worldwide and his contribution to the art world is undisputed.
