"The Large Tree" is a majestic work of art by French painter Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin, a celebrated figure in the Post-Impressionist movement. Incorporated within this genre painting is Gauguin's idiosyncratic use of color as well his Synthetist style, differing significantly from traditional Impressionism. Gauguin masterfully utilized oil as his medium, painting on a durable canvas, which has immaculately preserved the rich and vibrant colors of the large, dominating tree and the surrounding landscape. While Gauguin was only moderately successful when alive, his innovative textural and color schemes have since gained him significant recognition.
