Portrait of the Poet Vasyl Symonenko

The portrait titled 'Portrait of the Poet Vasyl Symonenko' captures the depth and intensity of the Ukrainian poet's spirit through vivid Expressionism techniques. Created during a period of political repression, the artwork reflects the emotional struggle and resilience characteristic of Soviet dissidents like Alla Oleksandrivna Horska, who was associated with the Ukrainian underground and Sixtier movements. Horska's tragic murder in 1970, reportedly linked to Soviet authorities, adds a layer of poignancy to the portrait's depiction of poetic rawness and defiance—a testament to the enduring power of art as a form of resistance.
