Landscape with the Fall of Icarus is an oil on canvas measuring 73.5 by 112 centimeters, housed in the Oldmasters Museum in Brussels. Traditionally attributed to the influential Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder, recent technical research casts doubt on this claim, suggesting it may be an early copy of his now-lost original, possibly from around 1558. The painting exemplifies a Mythological painting that depicts the myth of Icarus’s fall, set within a vast Northern renaissance landscape. Its composition vividly captures human indifference to individual tragedy amidst rural life, a characteristic theme in Bruegel's work.
