Jules Standing by His Mother

'Jules Standing by His Mother' is an astoundingly touching genre painting by American artist Mary Stevenson Cassatt, known for her intimate depictions of the relationships between mothers and children. The painting, done in oil on a durable canvas, mirrors the artist's deep sentiments towards familial bonds and the social lives of women, which were common themes in her work. The style of the painting is strongly reminiscent of Impressionism, a movement Cassatt was deeply affiliated with during her time in France, displaying both the influence of her contemporaries and her distinctive touch.
