Schoolgirls

"Schoolgirls" by Charles Raymond Blackman exemplifies his mastery in Genre painting, capturing intimate and candid moments with a touch of Expressionism. The painting depicts young schoolgirls, possibly in a classroom or social setting, highlighting Blackman's interest in everyday life and human emotion. As a member of the Antipodeans group, his work often reflects a confident brushwork and bold use of color, characteristic of his broader series, including Alice in Wonderland. His wife, Barbara Blackman, also contributed to Melbourne’s vibrant arts scene, further contextualizing his artistic environment.
